Long ago a new county was carved out of the old kingdom of Ethereum and named Nottingham. Robinhood Chain, the maps called it. Gold flowed in from the first day. Tokenized stocks, cash cats, cows with memories, dogs with pipes. Every fool with a coin and a picture rode into town, and most rode out richer than they came.
And not one of them paid a single tax.
The forest at the edge of town filled with thieves who called themselves heroes. A frog in a green hood who "stole from the rich," which mostly meant he stole from whoever bought after him. A big man named Little John who ate the pies. A whole GreenHood gang that robbed the treasury and split the loot on X. They gave the county its name and never gave the county a coin.
The people cheered. The Crown did not.
The Crown needed a collector. Not a hero. Heroes hold bags. The Crown needed something patient, something that never chased, something that sat in the sun and waited for the whole county to walk past its door with its pockets full.
It needed a cat.
Fat, orange, unbothered. Green eyes half shut. A star on the hat and a bag in the paw. He did not introduce himself. He simply put up a notice on every door in Nottingham that read: taxes are now due.
The Sheriff never robs anyone. He does not need to. He knows the one law of Nottingham that the outlaws forgot: everything that pumps must eventually pass through the gate, and the gate is his.
Every buy of $SHERIFF is a tax paid to the county. Every sell is a citizen fleeing across the border, and the Sheriff writes the name in his ledger and smiles, because they always come back. The frog will pay. Little John will pay. The cash cat, the goose, the cow, the pipedog. One by one, at the gate, into the bag.
The Crown set the Sheriff one task: fill the treasury to one million. Not steal it. Collect it. Coin by coin, tax by tax, until the ledger on this page reads the King's Quota and the Sheriff finally opens both eyes.
After that, he has said, he will start on the crown jewels.
He has never lost a bag. He has never held one. He only ever collected them.
